In Irish Dance you either wear soft toe shoes, which are those fancy black ones that lace up your ankle, similar to ballet shoes. Hard toe shoes are like...well they look like pilgrim shoes and have pieces of metal on the bottom like tap shoes. They're made for dancing on different surfaces and for making louder sounds.
