James Kalm saunters through an exhibition of photos by cult favorite Lucas Samaras. Vertiginous is the series title, and ratty street worn chairs, are the subject matter. Each study is snapped as if by an ornithologist documenting exotic birds in their natural habitat. Extravagantly rich and quirky compositions are enhanced with digital manipulation and juiced up colors for a taste of the Surreal distilled from the urban mundane.

hating schnabel is as old of an argument as 'anybody can do it'. art is not a place to go if your only in it for the money. it is harder to make a good living as an artist than you realize. you are just obsessing over money, you're jealous.....and that is boring.

okay, i had to get in on this. Used to not like his work. Then it grew on me. Yes, seems photoshoppy, 80s, etc....but it's not. The arguement that anybody can do it is the oldest arguement in art. I could be a plumber, but i'm not, you know....Samaras is good. Different but good. There are alot of young kids TRYING to do what he does but it's crap. And for the record, Schnabel is only in it for the money and his paintings suck.

wow...so open. i knew you'd jump at the chance to dismiss mr. schnabel. his magical 'connections'......i like his paintings:)

schnabel. i would rather work at mcdonalds than trade careers with his pitiful body of work. he is the perfect example of a bad artist that sought fame through connections despite complete lack of talent. he is a good film maker. i saw his plates way back when i was a kid. breathtakingly crappy. i figure the show will be about 100k which i will split. figure it will be about 3-4 months to prepare. so i will lose money but have lots of fun (i did 66k in january. which i split).

depends what you're hungry for...........:) you're boredom has led you to the Amish. good luck.

I have that biography sitting on the shelf half read. I thought that deKooning couldn't have been more boring if he were Amish. Perhaps it's necessary for something to be inside to make its way out. Apologies to all of the risk-taking Amish and their beautiful craftsmanship and lives.
