it's a japanese thing. white gloves in japan means "profesionalisme" so bus drivers,taxi drivers,train drivers and pilots all use white gloves.

They mainly wear them for hygenic reasons, so you don't get sweat all over the control collum and throttles. Especially when you have nervous cadets practicing engine failure on takeoff drills ;)
