I'm pretty sure that "losing my religion" is a southern phrase for "losing my temper" and seeing as how this band started in Georgia, I think that's the reason for the name

Mike Stipe really needs to learn how to dance, but other than that, this song is awesome and I like the religious imagery that goes with the song, despite that this song surprisingly really has nothing to do with religion.
